FITTER / WELDER

 

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret engineered and drafted drawings
  • Select and prepare material in the proper sequence in order to ensure accuracy and efficiency
  • Construct patterns and templates as guides for layouts
  • Layout  and fit material according to specifications, ensuring all tolerances are met
  • Analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems
  • Rig, hoist and move materials to work-site or storage area
  • Position, manipulate and install fabricated objects
  • Set up and operate various metal fabricating machines such as shear, saw and ironworker
  • Operate fabrication tools such as grinders, drills and cutting torches
  • Assemble and fit metal sections by means of Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) Flat or Metal Core Arc Welding (MCAW) Flat
  • Perform safety inspection of equipment and accessories
  • Make minor external repairs to equipment and accessories
  • Practice good housekeeping methods by keeping work area clean and clear of obstruction
  • Complete work documentation including pre-inspection procedures, quality control check lists and labour tracking to ensure data is recorded accurately in accordance with company standards
  • Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with Ball Service Group Inc. Conduct Code
  • Ensure strict adherence to the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations for Industrial Establishments
  • Must work in accordance with Company rules, policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Required Technical and Professional Skills:

  • Completion of Secondary School
  • 3 to 5 years related work experience in custom metal fabrication
  • CWB Certification in Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) Flat and Metal Core Arc Welding (MCAW) Flat
  • Demonstrate competencies required in order to obtain the Gas Metal Arc Welding and Flux Core Arc Welding according to the CWB Standard W47.1 Division 2
  • Proficient blueprint reading of engineered or drafted drawings
  • Proficient with the use and interpretation of CWB weld symbols
  • Knowledge of design techniques
  • Proficient with Metric and Imperial measurement systems
  • Proficient with the use of fabrication machinery and tools
  • Proficient layout skills using material according to specifications
  • Demonstrative decision and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient with the use, handling and storage of welding equipment and supplies
  • Must possess good oral and written communication skills in order to complete work assignments
  • Certified Forklift and Crane Operator
  • Demonstrate safe work practices and procedures
  • Must work in accordance with Company rules, policies and procedures

  • Ability to work with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically and professionally at all times
  • Strong work ethic

 

Additional Qualifications Are Considered an Asset:

  • Previous experience in a custom metal fabrication environment
  • Read and interpret engineered and drafted drawings

  • WHMIS 2015
  • AWS Certification
  • Certified Forklift and Crane Operator
